Tariffs. Customs. Trade Remedies

On July 11, 2025, the White House announced through a letter published on its social media channels that, starting August 1, 2025, the United States will impose a revised 30% tariff on goods from Mexico and the European Union.  For additional information on the announcement, please refer to our blog post: US: President Trump Hits Canada, EU and Mexico with High Tariffs – Import and Trade Remedies Blog

In response, on July 12, 2025, the Mexican Ministries of Economy and Foreign Affairs issued a joint statement informing that a Mexican delegation including officials from the Ministries of Economy, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Public Security and Energy met in Washington with U.S. officials, where the U.S. government informed of the new tariff, and where a permanent binational working group was established to develop alternatives that protect businesses and jobs ahead of August 1.

Mexico has not announced the imposition of any retaliatory measure and instead, Minister Ebrard indicated that Mexico will continue negotiating with the U.S. government to find alternative solutions.
