On May 12, 2025, the Minister of Finance (MOF) received an application from NIPPON STEEL CORPORATION, Nippon Yakin Kogyo Co., Ltd., NAS Stainless Steel Strip MFG. Co., Ltd. and NIPPON KINZOKU CO., LTD., to impose an anti-dumping duty on nickel-added cold-rolled stainless steel coil, sheet, and strip originating in the People’s Republic of China (excluding Hong Kong and Macao) and Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and MOF have decided to initiate the joint investigation based on the Public Notice on July 22, 2025.
Upon the results of the investigation, the Government of Japan will determine whether the product has been imported into Japan at dumped prices and whether such dumped imports have caused or threatened material injury to the domestic industry. During the investigation, the interested parties, including suppliers, domestic producers, and importers of the product, will have the opportunities to present their evidence.
The investigation is to be completed, in principle, within one year, and will determine whether to impose an anti-dumping duty on the product.
