On February 3, 2025, minutes before the Mexican President’s daily press conference, Claudia Sheinbaum, President of Mexico, and Donald Trump, President of the United States, held a telephone conference whereby they agreed to pause, for one month, the duties to be imposed by the United States and that were to become effective on the first minute of February 4.
Both President Sheinbaum and President Trump published in their social media posts confirming the agreement, and President Sheinbaum explained the details of their conversation in her daily press conference.
Based on the publications of both governments, the 25% duties to be imposed on Mexican products will be put on hold during the following month, during which Mexico and the United States will work together and continue having discussions on fentanyl, migration and weapons.
